Earlier this week, NASCAR fans learned the federation will be making a slight departure from tradition.
NASCAR plans to abandon its tradition of displaying the Daytona 500-winning car at the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America Museum, according to Motorsport.com’s Nick DeGroot. Traditionally, the car sits at the Hall of Fame for visitors to admire.
However, due to supply chain issues, NASCAR decided to do thing a little differently for this year. According to DeGroot, tradition will return next year, though.
Here’s more from his report:
“With the introduction of the Next Gen car, teams can’t afford to lose one of their race cars for the entire year. Supply chain issues, limited parts and delays in development have forced NASCAR to change how things are done, at least just for 2022.”
While the winning car won’t be placed in the Hall of Fame itself, NASCAR did find a roundabout way of giving fans what they want. According to DeGroot a lookalike of the car will be used.
“NASCAR will scan the winning car and create an identical wrap of the paint scheme — confetti and all,” he wrote. “The wrap will be placed on the body of a Next Gen prototype used in testing and be placed in the display as a substitute.”
Who will win?
