One of the top college basketball recruits in the country is heading to the Pac-12.
Mookie Cook, the No. 4 overall recruit in the 2023 cycle, announced on Thursday that he’s becoming a Duck. Cook has officially committed to play basketball for Dana Altman and the University of Oregon.
The five star becomes the second-highest rated recruit ever commit and play at Oregon, trailing only Bol Bol. He’s a 6-foot-7 wing out of Phoenix who has an offer from nearly every elite program in the country. The elite recruit ultimately chose Oregon over finalists Kentucky and Gonzaga.
The Ducks may have found their next star.

Why Oregon? Dana Altman has built a strong relationship with the five-star small forward. He offered Mookie Cook all the way back in eighth grade.
“I’ve been having a great relationship with coach Altman since I first got that offer in the eighth grade,” Cook told 247Sports. “Me and him have been communicating and it has been the same message since then. I also have great relationships with coach Mennenga and coach McKenna and they’ve made feel like I’m the number one guy they’ve prioritized.
“They have put everything into me and I feel like if I make mistakes they are there to help me learn and grow at the end of the day.”
Cook is one of the most athletic and versatile players in his class. He’s an elite defender and lethal scorer at the rim.
The Oregon Ducks got a good one.
