Chris Bassitt was struck by a line drive from Chicago White Sox outfielder Brian Goodwin. The ball hit him at clocked speeds of 100 miles per hour.
Bassitt was down on the ground for several minutes as he was attended to. However, the team noted that Bassitt never lost consciousness during the ordeal.
There were some concerns initially that the hit from the ball, which appeared to strike him near the eye, would cause damage to his vision. But A’s manager Bob Melvin quickly assured fans that the eye wasn’t at issue.
“We don’t think the eye is a problem at this point. It felt like it was below it. He’s got some cuts that [need] some stitches,” Melvin said after the game, via ESPN.
We wish Chris Bassitt a quick and full recovery.
