Mike Leach Teaching A New Class: Fans React

April 7, 2022 by The Spun

Mississippi State head coach Mike Leach.

Mike Leach has one of the most-entertaining minds in college football. That mind will be on display in a different way later this month.

Mississippi State announced that its head football coach will be teaching a class on the intersections of war and football.

The class will be on “insurgent warfare and football strategy.” It will be co-taught by Leach’s friend, former Washington state senator and current Spokane County treasurer Michael Baumgartner.

Leach is excited.

“You’re getting a group to work together when there’s chaos going on everywhere,” Leach said. “Of course, there are goals and objectives and things you have to protect as far as vulnerabilities. Then there are things you have that are strengths you want to utilize. And then the more strengths you can discover and utilize, the more vulnerabilities you can find on the opponent and the better off you’ll be.”

This is not the first time Leach has taught a class like this.

The former Washington State Cougars head coach taught the class at his old school. It was extremely popular.

“Mike Leach’s ‘Leadership Lessons in Insurgent Warfare & Football Strategy’ class was so popular, you had to write an essay to be selected to enroll,” ESPN tweeted.

Selection for the class at Mississippi State won’t be as strict, as it’s just a one-day event at an auditorium.

Still, it should be a pretty entertaining night.

This spring, Mike Leach co-taught a class at Washington State, lecturing on the principles of his Air Raid offense. For the final project, the students had to design three plays. @SInow picked our favorites, and had Leach evaluate them: https://t.co/dg381YkpTy

Video of the event – if available – should be highly entertaining.
