Matt Nagy Sums Up The Bears’ Quarterback Situation

The Chicago Bears have stated several times that Andy Dalton will be their starter for Week 1, but Justin Fields played so well in his preseason debut that it’s nearly impossible to ignore the possibility of him dethroning Dalton.

Bears head coach Matt Nagy tried to dismiss the idea of a quarterback competition during Monday’s press conference, telling reporters that Fields will open the season as the No. 2 signal-caller on the depth chart.

That being said, Nagy seems to be very pleased with the way his quarterback situation is playing out. He believes this quarterback dynamic in Chicago is going to make each player better.

“It’s positive, it’s healthy and guys grow,” Nagy said. “Andy [Dalton] becomes better. Justin [Fields] becomes better. Nick [Foles] becomes better. We become better because we’re doing it this way together and they’re not going against each other.”

While it’s great to hear that Nagy likes what he’s seeing from the Bears’ quarterbacks, all fans are concerned with right now is whether or not Fields will win the starting job.

Over the weekend, Fields had 142 passing yards, 33 rushing yards and two total touchdowns against the Miami Dolphins. It was an impressive debut for the 11th overall pick.

Fields will have the chance to showcase his skills against the Buffalo Bills this upcoming Saturday. He could potentially close the gap between him and Dalton with another strong performance.
