One of the biggest stories coming into the NFL offseason was the status of Aaron Rodgers.
Many thought this was going to be his last dance with the Green Bay Packers before he either retires or takes his talents to a new team.
None of those two scenarios came to pass as Rodgers decided to return to the Packers. He also signed a massive four-year extension where he’ll get $153M guaranteed.
Packers head coach Matt LaFleur found out about Rodgers returning in a fascinating way. He was in a meeting with his staff when he received the message and had to check to make sure it was real.
“I was in an offensive meeting, so it was pretty exciting,” LaFleur said. “I actually darted out right away to make sure I read it the correct way before I let anybody know. I would say I had pretty good feelings about it throughout the course of the offseason – since the season had ended up to that point. But until you know, you really don’t know.”
Getting Rodgers back was obviously massive for the Packers as they’re looking to contend again next season. He hasn’t won a Super Bowl since 2011 when the Packers took down the Steelers.
The Packers will also need to find a replacement for receiver Davante Adams, whether that’s via the NFL Draft next month or in free agency.
He was traded to the Las Vegas Raiders earlier this month for a 2022 first and second-round pick.
