The Kansas City Chiefs improved their wide receiver room on Thursday, signing Marquez Valdes-Scantling to a three-year contract.
Per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, it’s a three-year deal worth up to $36 million for Valdes-Scantling. He’ll make $18 million in the first two years.
Speaking to reporters this Friday afternoon, Valdes-Scantling revealed that he actually turned down more money just so he could play for Kansas City.
“I turned down a bunch of other deals for more money because I didn’t want to go lose… It’s not always about money,” Valdes-Scantling told reporters.

It’s been reported that Valdes-Scantling had offers from the Green Bay Packers and New Orleans Saints. Perhaps they offered him a higher base salary.
When healthy, Valdes-Scantling is a solid role player for a team that wants to push the ball downfield. He finished the 2021 season with 26 catches for 430 yards and three touchdowns.
The Chiefs are hopeful that Valdes-Scantling will soften the blow of losing Tyreek Hill.
