Mark Wahlberg Jokes About Ditching Patriots For Raiders Because Of Tom Brady

July 28, 2025 by Raiders Nation

Tom Brady, Raiders, Geno Smith

The Tom Brady-Las Vegas Raiders era is in full swing as the future NFL Hall of Fame quarterback has already used his voice and influence to make some meaningful changes to the franchise.

With Brady in tow as a minority owner, the Raiders have made several significant moves, including hiring John Spytek as the team’s new general manager and Pete Carroll as the head coach. Brady also had a say in certain moves, such as trading for Geno Smith prior to the 2025 NFL Draft.

While Brady has already made his presence felt across the organization, he remains adamant that he doesn’t have as significant a role in the day-to-day operations as one might expect. Regardless of how much he does, though, it’s clear that his involvement with Las Vegas has already raised its profile amongst fans.

For example, Mark Wahlberg has been seen frequently at home games and in a segment for Complex, Wahlberg joked that he switched allegiances from the New England Patriots to the Raiders due to his friendship with Brady, as transcribed by Douglas Fritz of ClutchPoints:

“It’s crazy because, I know people are going to give me a lot of s—t for this,” Wahlberg said. “But I live in Vegas. Tom’s got a piece of the Raiders. A lot of my friends got a piece of the Raiders. I went to six home games last year. I didn’t make it to any New England games because I live far away. My golf cart just got painted black. I didn’t even know it.”

Wahlberg didn’t seem serious about completely switching allegiances to the Silver and Black, though it goes to show how influential Brady can be by simply attaching his name to something. Wahlberg is an avid sports fan who is often seen attending games, and he has become the latest celebrity to be associated with Las Vegas.

While the Raiders have a lot of work to do to compete in the AFC, it feels like Brady’s involvement has brought more legitimacy to the organization. Knowing Brady, he’ll do whatever it takes to ensure his new team sees the same level of success that he did with the Patriots.

Tom Brady told Raiders not to sign Sam Darnold

The Raiders had a quarterback problem entering the offseason and thus were linked to every viable option. One name that garnered interest was Sam Darnold, though Tom Brady reportedly warned Las Vegas against signing him.
