Alabama head coach Nick Saban has dominated the college football recruiting game for over a decade.
Elite recruits like Amari Cooper, Derrick Henry and Bryce Young made the decision to play for Saban in Tuscaloosa. So, too, did former Alabama star running back Mark Ingram.
On Tuesday night, the former New Orleans Saints star opened up on Saban’s recruiting pitch to him. Spoiler alert: It was pretty simple.
“If you come to Alabama you can become a great player,” Ingram said Saban said via Alabama reporter Michael Casagrande. “If you don’t, it’s your own fault.”

Ingram did just fine during his time with the Crimson Tide. He became the first Alabama player to win the Heisman Trophy as he helped lead the Crimson Tide to the 2009 national title.
During his illustrious Alabama career, Ingram racked up 3,261 yards and 42 rushing touchdowns. He was a consensus All-American first-team selection and finished as a finalist for the Maxwell, Doak Walker and Walter Camp Player of the Year awards.
His excellence on the field didn’t stop in college. He went on to become a first-round pick by the Saints and has been a significant offensive weapon in the league for a decade.
