Now that they’re officially eliminated from playoff contention, the Los Angeles Lakers are looking ahead to next year.
Per Dan Woike of the Los Angeles Times, the team is clearing a roster slot by waiving Trevor Ariza.

Playing for his 10th NBA team, the well-traveled forward averaged 4.0 points and 3.4 rebounds in 24 games this season. He’s only played two of Lakers’ last 19 times, scoring six points in consecutive contests to close March.
While he made 11 starts this season, Ariza only tallied double-digit points twice.
A steady perimeter player, Ariza played all 82 games for the Lakers back in 2008-2009. However, he’s bounced around six different teams over the past four seasons.
By waiving Ariza, the Lakers can convert a younger player to an NBA deal or sign someone else before the season ends. Los Angeles, which fell out of the play-in tournament because of an ongoing seven-game losing streak, has three games remaining this season.
Although they have far bigger questions looming this offseason, the Lakers will hope to find lightning in a bottle at the bottom of their roster.
