On Wednesday morning, the Jacksonville Jaguars announced that Trevor Lawrence will be their starting quarterback for Week 1.
Of course, that came as a surprise to no one who has paid attention to college and NFL football for the past few years. Lawrence was one of the most-prized recruits coming out of high school and did nothing to hurt his status as an elite quarterback prospect while in college.
Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer was hesitant to name the No. 1 overall pick the team’s starting quarterback for a few weeks. However, he finally relented and made the move official earlier today.
After Lawrence was finally named the starting quarterback, his wife, Marissa, took to social media with a message for her husband.
“So proud,” she wrote in the caption of a photo that showed Lawrence being named the Jaguars starter.
Marissa added another photo, this time showing a post from the Jaguars where Lawrence was dubbed “QB1.”

Earlier this week, Lawrence played the entire first half of the Jaguars-Saints game, completing 14-of-23 passes for 113 yards.
The Jaguars offensive line has looked shaky in the first two preseason games, leaving Lawrence under duress. Hopefully the team can sure up the offensive line before the 2021 regular season officially kicks off.
Jacksonville opens the 2021 season against the Houston Texans on September 12. The game kicks off at 1:00 p.m. ET on CBS.
