Yankees fans are already in mid-season form. On Friday afternoon, the team was showered with boos because of its performance in the top of the first inning.
All-Star pitcher Gerrit Cole gave up a two-run homer to Rafael Devers. Obviously, that didn’t sit well with the fans at Yankee Stadium.
To make matters worse, Cole then gave up an RBI double to JD Martinez later on in the inning. That resulted in another round of boos.
Overall, the damage was limited to three runs in the top of the first inning.

The Yankees managed to cut the deficit to just one run, as Anthony Rizzo had a two-run home run of his own in the bottom of the first inning.
If the Yankees are going to defeat the Red Sox on Opening Day, they’ll need Cole to be much better. The fans have to be somewhat encouraged that he went through the second and third innings without any trouble.
