A former Colorado Rockies draft pick made his Coors Field debut on Opening Day.
Unfortunately for the Rockies, this newcomer won’t stick around. Newly-acquired Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson threw out the ceremonial first pitch before Friday’s season-opener against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Colorado may want to double-check his commitment to football after seeing him fire a strike.

Wilson’s successful first pitch is hardly surprising. Two years before joining the Seattle Seahawks, the Rockies drafted him in the fourth round. He excelled as a second baseman at North Carolina State, batting .282 with a .384 on-base percentage, while also making ten appearances as a pitcher during his senior year.
Wilson then spent two seasons in Colorado’s farm system. After collectively batting .229/.355/.356 in 93 games, he turned his focus to football.
Even after forging his path as a star quarterback, baseball has not abandoned Wilson. The Texas Rangers selected him in the 2013 Rule 5 Draft. They later traded his rights to the New York Yankees, where he made a spring training at-bat in 2018.
After 10 seasons in Seattle, the Seahawks traded the nine-time Pro Bowler to Denver in a package for three players and multiple draft picks. Wilson will look to guide the Broncos to their first postseason appearance since they won the Super Bowl with Peyton Manning six years ago.
