Earlier Thursday afternoon, the Cleveland Browns were eliminated from the Deshaun Watson sweepstakes.
The team’s efforts to land Watson appears to have cost them a relationship with current starting quarterback Baker Mayfield. Just a few hours ago, the former No. 1 overall pick requested a trade from Cleveland.
“It’s in the mutual interest of both sides for us to move on,” Mayfield reportedly said. “The relationship is too far gone to mend. It’s in the best interests of both sides to move on.”
At least one former NFL quarterback is commending Mayfield for standing his ground after the Browns openly flirted with other quarterbacks. Robert Griffin III thinks Baker made the right decision by requesting a trade.
“Baker Mayfield said he ain’t nobody’s Plan B. Good for him,” RGIII said on Twitter.

According to ESPN insider Dianna Russini, the Browns hoped to land Aaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson or Deshaun Watson this offseason.
“The Browns have operated this off-season as a club that was going to go after the three big quarterback names: Aaron Rodgers , Russell Wilson, and Deshaun Watson,” she said. “Cleveland shared that they wanted to stick with Baker if they couldn’t land any of those 3.”
The failed to land any of the three. To make matters worse, they also alienated their starting quarterback and former No. 1 overall pick.
Will Baker play in Cleveland next season?
