A Wednesday afternoon matchup between the New York Mets and St. Louis Cardinals resulted in a bench-clearing brawl — creating waves across the sports world.
All-time great NFL tight end Rob Gronkowski was one of the many fans/athletes to react to the incident. The 32-year-old free agent had an interesting take on this scuffle and MLB fights in general.
“They should all fight if [they’re] gonna clear the benches,” he wrote on Twitter late Wednesday night.

Wednesday’s brawl was already wild as is. But under Gronk’s request, it would have been even more chaotic.
Heading into Tuesday’s game, the Mets had been hit-by-pitch a league-leading 18 times — including four times in the first two games of the St. Louis series. When New York batter J.D. Davis got hit yet again, it was only a matter of time before things came to a head.
In the bottom of the eighth inning, Mets reliever Yoan Lopez gave St. Louis DH Nolan Arenado a scare with an up-and-in pitch. Arenado hit him with a “come-get-me” nod and the rest was history.
The Mets ultimately lost the game 10-5, but are 14-6 to start the 2022 season.
