Eagles fans are finally getting the throwback jersey experience they’ve been hoping for.

According to team owner Jeffrey Lurie, the Philadelphia organization will be rolling out the iconic Kelly Green jersey combo and matching helmets for the 2023 season.

As a Philly fan-favorite jersey combo, this news has Eagles fans overwhelmingly excited.

“Getting 9 jerseys 6 hats and 2 jackets,” one wrote.

“It’s so crucial Jalen Hurts is good because he would look great in Kelly Green,” another added

This development comes as the result of a notable NFL rule change this offseason. While the previous rule allowed teams to only have one helmet, the league has now extended it to two options per organization. In order for a secondary helmet option to be approved, teams must obtain an entire new set of alternate color helmets for all players with the same make, model and size of their primary headgear, per the NFL’s website.

Lurie says the team will add a new black helmet to match their black jerseys this coming season. He says he’ll try to convince the league to allow a third helmet option, but for now it will be black helmets in 2022 and Kelly Green starting in 2023.

The Eagles will continue to use their current Midnight Green helmet as their primary option.

The Philadelphia organization switched the team’s primary color to Midnight Green back in 1996. The last time the Eagles rocked the Kelly Green jersey combo was for a season-opening loss to the Green Bay Packers in 2010.
