Look: NBA World Is Shocked By The Lakers, Nets

April 3, 2022 by The Spun

LeBron James on the court.

How long ago does it feel that the Lakers were the prohibitive title favorites after landing Marc Gasol?

It’s hard to imagine that with just a handful of games to go in the season, LA can miss the playoffs entirely; and the star-studded Nets are guaranteed to be in the play-in (minus James Harden).

It was the talk of NBA Twitter Saturday night.

“I still can’t believe that entering the final week of the regular season, the Nets are in 10th place in the East and the Lakers are in 11th in the West,” said ESPN’s Ohm Youngmisuk.

“Nets are fortunate to have the Lakers taking up all the national derision,” tweeted Sports Media Watch. “Even with all the caveats to this season, it’s truly hard to believe they’re in the #9-10 slot — losing to Atlanta tonight to fall a game back — with a week to go in the season.”

“Nets & Lakers were the overwhelming favorites to meet in the finals btw. Just wow,” commented another user.

“The Nets are a lot more similar to the Lakers than we’d like to admit,” said a Brooklyn Nets writer.

“Dear October 2021, There’s a week left in the NBA regular season and you won’t believe this,” tweeted Boston Celtics voice Sean Grande. “The Lakers are 11th in the West. The Nets are 10th in the East. Plan accordingly.”

Dear October 2021,

There’s a week left in the NBA regular season and you won’t believe this.

The Lakers are 11th in the West.
The Nets are 10th in the East.

Plan accordingly.
