If the NBA regular season ended tonight, the Los Angeles Lakers would not be in the 2022 postseason field.
With Tuesday night’s 18-point loss to the Dallas Mavericks, the preseason title favorites have now dropped into the No. 11 spot in the Western Conference.
The Lakers have the exact same 31-44 record as San Antonio, but the Spurs have the tiebreaker advantage with a 2-1 head-to-head record against LA this season.

Even with the extended play-in tournament field, the No. 11 spot has the Lakers poised as the last team out of this year’s postseason.
Given their current injury issues and remaining schedule, the Los Angeles squad could very well miss the postseason altogether this year. With Anthony Davis still recovering from a mid-foot sprain suffered back in February and LeBron James dealing with a serious ankle sprain sustained on Sunday night, the Lakers will face four of the Western Conference’s top-six teams in the final stretch of their regular season schedule.
Frank Vogel and the struggling Lakers franchise will begin this tough stretch of games with a matchup against the No. 5-seed Utah Jazz on Thursday night.
