J.J. Watt faces a difficult rooting dilemma when the Houston Cougars face the Arizona Wildcats in the NCAA men’s college basketball tournament.
Does the former Houston Texans star back the place where he spent 10 seasons? Or does he support Arizona as a current member of the Cardinals?
When tasked on the conundrum by Greg Rajan of the Houston Chronicle, Watt avoided picking a side through an amusing anecdote.
Instead of choosing a team, the star defensive end recalled a time Snoop Dogg represented the Los Angeles Chargers during the coin toss. When Watt’s Texans — he didn’t specify when this occurred, but the Cardinals didn’t face the Chargers last year — emerged victorious, the iconic rapper conveniently ditched his powder blue jersey to celebrate with the winners.
“It’s gonna be kinda like that,” Watt concluded with two laughing emojis.
One year when we were playing in LA, Snoop was the coin toss captain for the Chargers and was wearing a baby blue jersey.
We ended up winning the game and afterwards, he took the jersey off and came in our locker room to hang with us.

Of course, he can also turn to his family on handling this sticky situation. They’re pressured into hoping everyone has a fun time whenever Watt faces either of his brothers, T.J. or Derek, both currently on the Pittsburgh Steelers.
In fact, if J.J. Watt’s story about Snoop Dogg refers to Houston’s last victory over Los Angeles in 2019, he had just defeated Derek.
The top-seeded Wildcats will face No. 5 Houston in a Sweet 16 contest Thursday night in San Antonio. J.J. Watt may be waiting with a jersey of each school in opposite hands to see who advances to the Elite Eight.
