In case you might’ve forgotten over the course of the MLB‘s near-100 day lockout: Jacob deGrom is really good at pitching.
On Tuesday, the two-time Cy Young Award winner picked up right where he left off; striking out the side in his first inning of spring training.

Injury was the only thing that could stop deGrom last season.
The 33-year-old right-hander made only 15 starts in 2021, posting a 7-2 record, 1.08 ERA and a cartoonish 0.55 WHIP with 146 strikeouts.
deGrom has been incredible from the jump. But since 2018, it’s just been ridiculous. In that season, the Mets ace finished with a career-low 1.70 ERA, and career-high 269 strikeouts across 217 innings.

Now deGrom is joined by fellow Cy Young winner Max Scherzer, and a very good starter in Chris Bassitt. Since entering the majors 2014, deGrom’s enjoyed all the individual success in the world; but unfortunately for he and the Mets, winning hasn’t really followed.
New York will be hoping to change that this year as they look to make a run in the NL East behind a strong pitching rotation and slugger Pete Alonso.
