Believe it or not, the Pittsburgh Steelers are the latest team being linked to Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield. ESPN insider Jeff Darlington said the Steelers could pursue Mayfield if he’s released by the Browns.
“If for some reason the Browns, and I don’t expect this to happen, were to cut Baker Mayfield, I think he signs with the Pittsburgh Steelers the very next day,” Darlington said on Get Up.
A few hours after Darlington made that comment, a conspiracy theory surfaced. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler is wondering if NFL owners are so furious about the Deshaun Watson deal that teams have been instructed not to trade for Mayfield. That would leave the Browns with no choice but to cut the former No. 1 overall pick.
So far, fans are split on this conspiracy theory.
“This theory is too stupid to even comment on,” one fan tweeted.

“Totally agree with this take from Jeremy Fowler,” a second fan wrote.
Totally agree with this take from @JFowlerESPN The #Haslams are arrogant morons. They have stained one of the great #NFL Franchises Many true @Browns fans are disgusted and can no longer support the team. Very sad times in CLE. Once they release @bakermayfield he’ll be fine https://t.co/YgAnbOunLp

Of course, it’s still possible the Browns find a trade partner for Mayfield this offseason. The Carolina Panthers and Seattle Seahawks have been mentioned as potential suitors for Mayfield.
If Mayfield ends up in Pittsburgh though, that would make this year’s Browns-Steelers games must-see TV.
