Nebraska football hosted a premier transfer this weekend when it welcomed TCU defensive end Ochaun Mathis to Lincoln.
Mathis made second-team All-Big 12 each of the last two seasons and was named honorable mention Big 12 Defensive Lineman of the Year in 2020. He’d be a massive addition to a Cornhusker defense that is looking to get back to return to its “Blackshirt” roots.
It seems like Scott Frost and company recognize how much of an impact Mathis could have. According to Mitch Sherman of The Athletic, the program treated the TCU transfer like royalty this weekend.
“I’m confident in saying that Nebraska’s never rolled out the red carpet for an April visitor like it did with Mathis this weekend,” Sherman tweeted.

In February, Mathis named Nebraska, Ole Miss, Penn State, Texas and USC as his finalists. Mathis’ mother Ochana Daniels recently told the Omaha World-Herald that her son has been proactive in his recruitment since entering the transfer portal.
“He hasn’t been nonchalant,” Daniels said. “He has been actively looking into film. He is the type of individual who looks deeply into situations because he doesn’t want to make wrong choices. He’s been doing that every day since he got into the portal.”
