Michigan football will hold its annual spring game this Saturday, with Colin Kaepernick serving as an honorary captain.
Kaepernick played for Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh with the San Francisco 49ers from 2011-14. The Wolverines announced last night that Kaepernick will be attending and had been named honorary captain.
Additionally, the free agent quarterback, who hasn’t played in the NFL since 2016, is set to throw at halftime of the game. It is another opportunity for Kaepernick to “stay on the radar” and get a workout in, according to Michigan play-by-play man Doug Karsch.
“He’s been doing workouts trying to stay on the radar and he is going to throw at halftime of the Michigan spring game,” Karsch said, via Audacy.com.
Former Wolverine Desmond Howard certainly seems to approve of Kaepernick’s involvement, which he acknowledged with a “Go Blue” on Twitter.

It has been nearly six full years since Kaepernick last played in an NFL game. He suited up for the 49ers during the 2016 season, which is the same year he began his protest during the national anthem.
Since then, the NFL has seemingly totally shunned Kaepernick, though he still is apparently still trying to make a comeback. We’ll see if his trip to Ann Arbor will have any sort of impact on that attempt.
