Al Michaels is the latest broadcaster to change homes. According to Andrew Marchand of the New York Post, the decorated play-by-play commentator is leaving NBC to join Amazon Prime’s new Thursday Night Football team alongside Kirk Herbstreit.
It’s an end of an era at Sunday Night Football, where Michaels has called games with Cris Collinsworth since 2009. His long-time partner paid homage to the 77-year-old with a fitting video.
Collinsworth posted a clip of Michaels introducing him sliding his chair into frame “for one final time” at the beginning of Super Bowl LVI.

The bit has taken on a life of its own over the years. It’s hard to picture either man calling a game with someone else, but it’s even weirder to imagine Herbstreit sliding into the booth next to Michaels.
Per Marchand, Mike Tirico will join Collinsworth in the Sunday Night Football booth. We’ll have to see if Collinsworth keeps sliding onto the stage, or if that truly was his last time.
