It really doesn’t get much bigger than Saturday night when it comes to college basketball. Prior to the tip of Duke and North Carolina’s first meeting in the NCAA tournament, Coach K was asked if revenge is on his mind.
To which Mike Krzyzewski responded, “Winning the National Championship is the holy grail … We have focused on that and not rivalry payback.”

Of course, the Tar Heels saddled Coach K with a loss in his final game at Cameron Indoor. And while payback may not necessarily be on the forefront of the Duke head coach’s mind, it has to be operating somewhere.
Especially with a trip to the national championship on the line.
The best rivalry in college sports doesn’t require any added motivation on either side. But, between the avenging that final home loss, and UNC trying to end Coach K’s career Saturday night, there’s no shortage of fuel for either school.
Not to mention, the bragging rights one school would hold over the other for what could be decades; given this is the first and only meeting the rivals have had during March Madness.
