The New England Patriots will conclude the preseason tonight against the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium. Cam Newton seems ready to play.
In an Instagram post, Newton, who is often cryptic on social media, indicated his enthusiasm for tonight’s game while possibly hinting at the fact he is officially the Patriots’ starting quarterback.
In the graphic, Newton wrote “QB #1” with an arrow pointing to the number one on the back of his jersey. Either Cam really wants to make sure we know his number or he’s trying to tell us he’ll be the opening day starter.
“You are not in control of ‘my’ thesis,” Newton said in the caption, citing Jay Z.

Bill Belichick has still not announced the team’s starting quarterback. Newton has worked as the presumed starter in training camp, with rookie Mac Jones as the No. 2 and veteran Brian Hoyer serving as third-string.
However, when Newton missed multiple days of practice last week due to COVID-19 protocols, it enabled Jones to have the bulk of reps. He responded by turning in a stellar joint practice against the Giants before struggling the following day when Newton returned.
Now, we’ll see both Jones and Newton face New York in live action in less than three hours.
