Baker Mayfield is ready to return to his alma mater to see his Heisman Trophy statue.
Mayfield won the Heisman Trophy in 2017 after he had a record-setting season with the Sooners. He finished with 4,627 yards passing and had a TD/INT ratio of 43/6.
He’s set to be honored on Apr. 23 at halftime of the annual Spring Game. Mayfield also led the Sooners to a Big 12 Championship, plus a berth in the College Football Playoff during that 2017 season.
On Thursday afternoon, Mayfield tweeted how excited he is to celebrate this honor alongside his family and friends.
“I can’t think of a better way to celebrate this tremendous honor than alongside my family, teammates, and Sooner Nation,” Mayfield tweeted. “It took all of us, so to be back on Owen Field and have this statue unveiled there is incredible. See you at the Spring Game!”

Mayfield was then selected by the Cleveland Browns with the top overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. He’s been the Browns’ starter for four seasons, but that looks to be coming to an end.
Cleveland acquired Deshaun Watson earlier this month, which means Mayfield will likely be starting somewhere else next season.
That said, all of that will be on the backburner in a few weeks when he arrives in Norman for the ceremony.
