On Saturday morning, ESPN’s College GameDay made its triumphant return to the screen for the first weekend of football.
That mean the return of beloved analyst Lee Corso. The 86-year-old former head coach did the 2020 season from home due to the pandemic, but he was back on the set this morning.
He wasted no time doling out the predictions. During the first half hour of the show, Corso opened up about Alabama‘s chances to repeat as the national champion.
It’s safe to say he doesn’t think it’s going to happen. Here’s what Corso had to say about the Crimson Tide, via 247Sports:
“One big question I’m admiring — can Alabama go back to back and win two national championships,” Corso said during Gameday’s opening storylines segment. “The question is, percentage-wise, not so fast my friend. In the past, Alabama has had many chance to win it and has not won (back to back) national championships since 2012.”
It’s never safe bet to go against Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide. Alabama enters the season as the No. 1 team in the country and usually has no problem replacing top talent that left for the NFL.
However, it’s incredibly difficult to repeat as the national champion, which is why it hasn’t been done in nearly a decade.
The last team to do it, though, was Alabama.
