LeBron James has been shut down for the remainder to the 2021-22 season due to a nagging ankle injury he suffered late last month.
The Los Angeles superstar will be unavailable for his team’s final two games against the Oklahoma City Thunder and Denver Nuggets.
The Lakers official Twitter account announced the decision on Friday afternoon.
“LeBron James’ left ankle was recently reevaluated by Lakers medical staff, and it was determined that due to the ankle sprain James suffered in a game on March 27th, he will miss the remainder of the 2021-22 NBA season to allow for continued healing and an expected full recovery,” the team wrote.

On April 1, LeBron took to Twitter with an April Fools “joke” claiming that he would be out for the remainder of the season. After dropping 38 points against the New Orleans Pelicans later that night, the 37-year-old superstar’s joke ended up coming true.
Many fans were quick to point this out.
“Never test Karma, remember that April Fools tweet,” one wrote.
“Guess that April Fools tweet wasn’t really such a joke after all lol. No real reason to play him and AD in these final two games. Best to play it on the safe side. Rest up and come back stronger next season,” another added.

The Lakers were eliminated from playoff contention with a loss to the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday. Because of this, no one is too surprised that LeBron is cutting Year 19 short.
“This isn’t breaking news… the second they were mathematically eliminated, we all knew he was done for the season,” one wrote.
“So the Lakers get eliminated from playoff contention and suddenly LeBron needs to miss the rest of the season. Very cool,” another added.
