Larry Fitzgerald still hasn’t made an official decision on whether he’ll play for the Arizona Cardinals this fall. With less than a month until Week 1 of the season, it is looking pretty unlikely that he’ll suit up, at least at the start of the year.
The 37-year old is coming off of a year in which his role in the Cardinals offense was greatly reduced. He caught 54 passes for 409 yards and one touchdown in 2020.
During the latest SiriusXM radio show with Let’s Go with Jim Gray, Fitz admitted that his heart isn’t in it at the moment. He won’t rule out that changing in the fall, but as of now it doesn’t sound like he plans to return.
“I just don’t have the urge to play right now,” the Cardinals legend said on Friday. “I don’t know how I’ll feel in September, October, November moving forward, but I just, today, I just don’t have the urge, and I think I have to be respectful of that.”

“Football is not one of those games you want to walk out there and play and not be fully engaged and ready to prepare and do the things necessary that you need to do,” Fitzgerald added. While he stops short of saying that he’s retired, it certainly sounds like he’s leaning that way.
The franchise has the door wide open for Larry Fitzgerald, if he gets the itch later this year.
“The ball’s in his court,” head coach Kliff Kingsbury said in late July. “We feel like we got great depth in that group regardless. We’ll have a plan here either way.”
It would be cool to see him return to the team for one more season, especially in a loaded Cardinals offense, but he is absolutely right. Football is not the game for someone that isn’t 100-percent committed, and right now, he isn’t there mentally.
