LaMelo Ball’s Comment On Skipping College Is Going Viral

Charlotte Hornets point guard LaMelo Ball.

LaMelo Ball’s decision to skip college basketball and play professionally overseas clearly didn’t hurt his NBA career. The flashy guard won the Rookie of the Year award this past season.

In fact, in a new profile interview with GQ, Ball makes it clear that school was never a priority of his. His central focus was pursuing his NBA dream.

“You wanna go to the league, so school’s not your priority,” Ball admitted.

The Charlotte Hornets star, who turns 20 on Sunday, went on to say that he didn’t “need” school to accomplish his goals.

“We not trippin’ off school. We not dumb,” Ball said. “We know how to learn. We don’t need school. And school not even teachin’ you shit—what the fuck is school?”

Parents stressing education to their children who are star athletes are likely cringing reading these remarks. School may not be important to LaMelo Ball, but it is for other people.

LaMelo technically isn’t wrong in saying he didn’t need to go to college though. In his first NBA season, despite missing time with a wrist injury, the skilled playmaker was the league’s top rookie, averaging 15.7 points, 6.1 assists and 5.9 rebounds per game.
