The Los Angeles Lakers could be going after a big fish to replace current head coach Frank Vogel.
It’s no secret that this season will go under the category of “unacceptable” in Los Angeles after the team failed to even make the play-in tournament.
The Lakers collapsed down the stretch and fell out of that No. 10 spot in the Western Conference.
Now that the offseason is underway for them, an NBA executive thinks that the Lakers will ask about trying to get Toronto Raptors head coach Nick Nurse.
“I would expect the Lakers to at least ask about Nick Nurse,” an Eastern Conference executive said to Sean Deveney of Heavy.com.
However, the same executive also told Deveney that he doubts the Raptors would let him go.
“They’re not going to let him go,” the executive said. “But it makes him look better and Klutch look better if they are asking for him, right? So yeah, I would not be surprised to see the Lakers ask about him but more as a favor to Klutch. Maybe they won’t because he is so far out of reach. But, you scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours, that is how things work.”
Nurse is one of the best coaches in the NBA and just led the Raptors to an NBA Championship three seasons ago. He also won the NBA’s Coach of the Year award in 2020.
He’s also coached the Raptors to a 48-33 record this season as they have the fifth seed in the Eastern Conference heading into the playoffs.
They’ll get the Philadelphia 76ers in the first round.
