It appears the Los Angeles Lakers are throwing in the towel on the 2021-22 season.
LeBron James and Anthony Davis have both been ruled out of Tuesday night’s game between the Lakers and Mavericks.
LeBron is dealing with an ankle injury. He sustained the setback during the Lakers’ ugly loss to the New Orleans Pelicans on Sunday night.
Davis, meanwhile, hasn’t played since Feb. 16. The Lakers have been anxiously awaiting his return as they fight to stay alive in the playoff race. It appears the team now doesn’t feel as much urgency to get him back in the lineup now that LeBron is out of the mix.
LeBron and AD, both listed as doubtful earlier, are out at Dallas tonight.

The Los Angeles Lakers are officially down bad. They’re currently 31-43 on the season, good for 10th in the Western Conference standings. That’s only a half game up on the 11th-place San Antonio Spurs.
Without LeBron and AD in the lineup, it’s seriously fair to question whether or not the Lakers can win another game this season. They play the Mavericks on Tuesday night before battling the Jazz on Thursday and Pelicans again on Friday. After that their remaining games include matchups against the Nuggets, Suns, Warriors, Thunder and Nuggets.
The Lakers are in serious trouble. They’re clinging to a spot in the play-in tournament and now down both of their best two players. This season can’t end fast enough for Los Angeles and Co.
