Kyrie Irving has made headlines all year for his inability to play in half of the Brooklyn Nets’ games due to COVID-19 vaccination restrictions. But on Tuesday night, the superstar point guard garnered the attention of fans around the NBA world for a far more impressive “half.”
In just the first half of tonight’s away matchup against the Orlando Magic, Kyrie dropped an incredible 41 points.
The 29-year-old guard propelled the Nets to a massive 30-point halftime lead with an amazingly efficient 14-19 shooting from the field, 6-7 from behind the arc and 7-7 from the free throw line.
His 41 points at half marks the most points in a half by any player this season.
Kyrie went for:

The NBA world took to Twitter to react to this incredible first-half performance.
“Kyrie Irving is going crazy. He’s treating Orlando like they’re the Washington Generals and he’s the Harlem Flat Earth Trotters,” one fan wrote.
“Kyrie dropped 41 in the first half??? Nash gotta let him go for 80 since he gonna have tomorrow off anyways,” another added.
Wilt had 41 at halftime of his 100-point game.
Kyrie at halftime tonight: 41.
I’m just saying.
Incidentally, the NBA record for first-half points: 53, by David Thompson and George Gervin, both on April 9, 1978 as they chased the scoring record on that season’s final day.

Kyrie Irving is the 3rd player in the past 25 seasons to score at least 40 points in the first half.
He joins Kobe Bryant (42 in 2003) and Klay Thompson (40 in 2016). pic.twitter.com/967Ysp62zM

Kyrie’s 41 points are the most the Magic have ever allowed in one half to any player in franchise history. The Nets’ 86 points in the first half are the most points the Magic have ever allowed in one half in franchise history.

Heading into tonight, Kyrie was averaging 25.9 points per game through 18 contests with the Nets. He dropped a 50-point performance against the Hornets just last week.
Let’s see if Kyrie can continue this furious pace into the second half.
