Jon Gruden Has Honest Reaction To Raiders-Rams Fight At Practice

Las Vegas Raiders head coach Jon Gruden after losing to the Chiefs.

Las Vegas Raiders head coach Jon Gruden was reportedly fuming after his team got into a fight with the Los Angeles Rams in a joint practice.

The fight took place during the special teams portion of the joint practice. Gruden responded by pulling his players from practice and marching them to the bus.

Afterwards, Gruden spoke to the media and addressed what happened. He complained that fights like the one that broke out are “not good for football” and “not good for anything.”

“I thought we had great work today until special teams, right at the end of the special teams period,” Gruden said, via NFL.com. “I have no idea what that was, but that’s enough of that crap. That’s not good for football, that’s not good for anything, that’s the end of that practice session.”

Gruden said that there was no message to be given to the team after the fight. He said that it started out as two guys trash-talking that escalated. He called what happened “sickening” and “stupidity.”

“There’s no message. They know. They know better,” he said. “Everybody knows better. And again, it wasn’t everybody fighting. It’ll be on TV. You’ll see a bunch of guys screaming and yelling. But it was two guys in a special teams period, and then it was a lot of trash-talking that escalated. It’s just sickening, really. It’s just stupidity. I’m done with that. It’s just child’s play to me.”

The last three seasons have been challenging ones for Jon Gruden. He’s gone just 19-29 with defenses that consistently rank in the bottom half of the league.

The Raiders have endured two of their worst defensive seasons ever under his watch.

While the team is financially committed to Gruden, he needs a big 2021 to avoid going through a massive rebuild next year.

The Raiders and Rams face off in preseason action this Saturday night.
