Jim Harbaugh Defines What Success Will Be For Michigan This Year

It seems like every season is a “critical year” for Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh. But after going 2-4 last year, 2021 could very well be his last stand. So what will success look like for Harbaugh this year?

In a recent interview, Harbaugh asserted that seeing the team get better each day will define success for him. He believes that “improvement will lead to success” and eventually a championship.

“It’s getting better every day,” Harbaugh said. “What I want for this team right now is to get better every single day as one. Felt like we came out of that today, now we’ll go watch the tape, see if we can’t make the meetings tonight the best meetings we’ve had so far in this camp.

“Then come back tomorrow, put the pads back on and try to get a mile-an-hour faster tomorrow.”

“It’s the simple formula of improvement will lead to success — that’s the theory,” Harbaugh said. “That’ll lead to championships and lead to all the goals we want to have at the end of the year.”

Since taking over the Wolverines in 2015, Harbaugh is 49-22 overall and 34-16 in Big Ten play. But he’s struggled mightily against the top competition – specifically arch-rival Ohio State and bowl opponents.

Harbaugh is winless against Ohio State, and each loss is seemingly more embarrassing than the last. He’s also 1-4 in bowl games.

Michigan’s schedule isn’t going to do them many favors. Their season could be decided in October with big road games against Wisconsin, Nebraska and Michigan State sandwiching a game against reigning Big Ten West champion Northwestern.

Can Jim Harbaugh lead the Wolverines back to their winning ways in 2021?
