The New York Jets suffered a massive blow last week when pass rusher Carl Lawson, the team’s marquee free agent signing, tore his Achilles.
Without Lawson, the Jets could struggle to generate pressure off the edge. Not surprisingly, they’re looking for ways to alleviate that issue.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Jets want to acquire a pass rusher before Week 1, and are considering using a trade to do that.
After losing Carl Lawson to a season-ending torn Achilles, the Jets now are looking for ways to acquire a pass rusher to help fill the void, per sources. A trade before the season is being explored.

Of course, New York could also simply try to sign a veteran defensive end who is still on the market. Names like Olivier Vernon, Everson Griffen, Adrian Clayborn and Ziggy Ansah come to mind, among others.
Third-year defensive tackle Quinnen Williams is the Jets’ returning sack leader with seven. John Franklin-Myers (three sacks) and Nathan Shepherd (2.5 sacks) are also back, but Gang Green clearly needs some additional pass rushing prowess.
The Jets will open the 2021 season three weeks from today against the Carolina Panthers.
