New York Jets offensive tackle Mekhi Becton was seen leaving the practice field on Tuesday with the team’s trainers. On Wednesday, the coaching staff provided an update on the former first-round pick.
Jets head coach Robert Saleh told reporters that Becton is currently in concussion protocol. There’s currently no timetable for his return.
Becton suffered a head-to-head collision during 11-on-11 drills on Tuesday. ESPN’s Rich Cimini said Becton “appeared woozy” and threw up on the sideline shortly after the collision.
Saleh made sure to shoot down any rumors about Becton leaving practice early because he’s out of shape.
“His weight is good, his conditioning is fine,” Saleh said, via ESPN. “He’s fine.”

Becton, the Jets’ 2020 first-round pick, showed a lot of potential as a rookie. His rare combination of speed and size makes him a unique player in the NFL.
Unfortunately, Becton hasn’t really been able to stay healthy this year. Earlier this summer, Becton was held out of minicamp due to plantar fasciitis.
When healthy this summer, Becton has been enjoying his role in the Jets’ new system under offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur. He appreciates the way LaFleur uses the run game to set up play-action.
With the regular season only a few weeks away, the Jets are hopeful that Becton will be ready to go for their season opener against the Panthers.
