Brace yourselves, Jets fans. We have bad news to share surrounding the health of the New York Jets.
Thursday’s practice began on an extremely sour note when it was reported Carl Lawson – who’s probably the Jets’ most important defensive player – was carted off the field because of a leg injury. The bad news didn’t stop there, though.
Wide receiver Denzel Mims limped off the field with a trainer shortly thereafter. Before that, defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins left practice with what’s being described as an “apparent injury,” according to Connor Hughes of The Athletic.
This day just keeps getting worse and worse for the New York Jets.
Denzel Mims is hurt. Limped off and is with trainer. Sheldon Rankins left early with an apparent injury, too. #Jets

Hard to express how silent this place got when Carl Lawson, the unquestioned star of #Jets training camp, went down.
No further details known right now, but this would be a massive, horrific blow to defense if he’s forced to miss time

This had been one of the best off-seasons in recent Jets’ history, so it goes without saying this is potentially a devastating blow.
Carl Lawson is an integral piece of a Jets defense projected to be pretty decent this upcoming season. Robert Saleh’s specialty is helping defenses make miraculous turn-arounds, like he did with the San Francisco 49ers. But there’s no replacing a player like Lawson.
Sheldon Rankins, meanwhile, was projected to start right alongside Lawson on the defensive line. Denzel Mims was also going to be a key contributor, but on the offensive end. It’s unclear the severity of either’s injury.
Let’s hope this isn’t the start of another unfortunate series of events for the New York Jets, who just can’t seem to catch a break these days.
