When Urban Meyer became the head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars, he sent a clear message to his players: call me whenever you need help with anything, football related or not.
Jaguars Pro Bowler Josh Allen took him up on that offer earlier this summer.
Allen and his wife, Kaitlyn, recently welcomed a baby girl into the world. Kaitlyn wanted to strictly breastfeed her daughter, though the hospital’s nurse reportedly advised against it. So, Allen called his head coach.
Peter King of NBC Sports had the full story:
Meyer had told the players, “we’ll help you fix it.” So here was the time for Josh Allen to see if he meant it. He called Meyer. Meyer told him to stand by.
“I called the CEO of the hospital, and asked for his help,” Meyer told me. When you’re the hottest guy in town, the coach of the local NFL team, you can do that. The CEO got the wheels in motion to solve the problem, and Baby Allen would be breast-fed. Exclusively.
The other day, Allen told me that proved to him that Meyer means what he says. “After he helped fix that situation, I knew I could go to work with the peace of mind that my wife’s going to be okay,” Allen told me. “It meant everything to me.”
Meyer believes that his players need to be happy in all aspects of their life in order to be successful on the field. He made sure Allen and his wife had everything they needed at the hospital.
If Meyer is going to be successful in the NFL, it’ll be because his players are 100 percent bought in.
So far, so good in Jacksonville.
