Urban Meyer and the Jacksonville Jaguars have been quite busy this Saturday morning. Not only did they trade quarterback Gardner Minshew to the Philadelphia Eagles, they added a veteran wide receiver to their roster.
The Jaguars announced the signing of wide receiver Devin Smith this weekend. The front office also signed offensive lineman Jermaine Eluemunor.
It’s tough to tell what kind of impact Eluemunor and Smith can make in Jacksonville with final roster cuts due on Tuesday, but the latter does know a thing or two about playing in Meyer’s system.
Smith, 29, was a star for Ohio State from 2011 to 2014. Over the course of his four-year career with the Buckeyes, Smith had 121 receptions for 2,503 yards and 30 touchdowns.
The New York Jets selected Smith in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft, but the Ohio State product never lived up to the hype.

Smith was recently a member of the New England Patriots’ practice squad. Before he was on the Patriots, he spent time with the Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans.
The Jaguars already have a plethora of talented wide receivers on their roster, such as DJ Chark, Marvin Jones and Laviska Shenault. That being said, Meyer might be able to carve out a role for Smith on offense.
