Despite his decision to come out of retirement and rejoin the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this coming season, there are still rumors floating around that Tom Brady could be playing for the Miami Dolphins in 2022.
On Thursday, veteran New England insider Dale Arnold said he “wouldn’t be surprised” if the all-time great QB landed in South Beach before the start of this coming season. In fact, he reported that the two sides are currently “working on” a deal.
During an appearance with The Pat McAfee Show on Friday, NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport shut down these rumors.
“This one doesn’t make any sense,” Rapoport said. “Brady is under contract with the Bucs. They have said definitively he’s not going anywhere. And if I remember correctly, he did recruit a couple guys to sign back with Tampa — including his buddy Leonard Fournette, Chris Godwin, [Ryan Jensen] and several other free agents.
“Is he really gonna do that then bail? … None of this makes sense to me.”

The Dolphins have gone all in on the free-agent and trade markets this offseason, so a move to acquire Brady would fit with their current trajectory. But considering all the factors keeping Brady in Tampa Bay, it would be a shock if he made his way to South Beach before the 2022 season.
That being said, perhaps a move in 2023 is still in play.
