Once the Cleveland Browns acquired Deshaun Watson, the focus shifted over to Baker Mayfield’s future with the franchise.
Despite all the rumors about a potential Mayfield trade, a deal isn’t imminent at this time. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport explained why there hasn’t been much movement on that front.
The reason Mayfield’s trade market isn’t very strong is because of his $18 million base salary.
“It doesn’t seem like anyone is interested at this salary,” Rapoport said. “The at this salary part is key because Baker Mayfield is unlikely to be traded at $18 million. If the Browns are able to eat some money, or the agent and new team can come up with an answer to split or deal with his salary, I believe he’ll be traded. I don’t get the sense the Browns will release him.”

Cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot made similar comments during a recent episode of the “Orange and Brown Talk” podcast.
Of course, the market for Mayfield would increase if he was released by the Browns. There’s no indication that’ll happen at this time.
For now, Mayfield is in a holding pattern.
