Hugh Freeze’s name was constantly mentioned during the college football coaching carousel earlier this year. However, no team took a shot on the former Ole Miss head coach. He remains at Liberty for now.
The expectation is that Freeze will one day be hired for a much bigger coaching job. But it’s going to take quite the special opportunity to lure him away.
Freeze told Paul Finebaum last week that it’s going to take something “extremely special” for him to leave Liberty.
“It would take something extremely special for me to consider leaving here,” Freeze said on The Paul Finebaum Show on Thursday, via 247Sports. “Jill loves it here on the mountain, my kids love it here on the mountain. My daughter is my personal assistant here and you can’t do that just everywhere.
“I’m just so blessed with a great administration here. I’m very honest and candid with my players and them that, should an opportunity ever present itself that makes sense for Jill and I and our family, they would be the first to know. To this point, none of those have come my way and I’m quite OK with that, because I truly am at peace.”
Could a “special” opportunity arise for Hugh Freeze next year? It’s plausible.
Freeze has had quite the run at Liberty. It also helps he helped develop Malik Willis into this year’s top quarterback prospect.
It’s likely Freeze’s days at Liberty are numbered, especially if he has a strong showing this upcoming season.
