The former Philadelphia quarterback trade could impact Derek Carr’s value and Marcus Mariota trade talks
On Thursday, another big quarterback trade was struck as the Philadelphia Eagles sent quarterback Carson Wentz to the Indianapolis Colts for a package of draft picks.
Here are the details:
Philadelphia has agreed to trade Carson Wentz to the Indianapolis Colts in exchange for a 2021 third-round pick and a conditional 2022 second-round pick that could turn into a first, league sources tell @mortreport and me.

The trade could affect the Las Vegas Raiders in some areas, let’s take a look:
Derek Carr’s value:
Carr’s value will likely fall somewhere between Matthew Stafford’s trade value and Wentz’s (perhaps be closer to Stafford’s). Earlier in the offseason, the Detroit Lions sent Stafford to the Los Angeles Rams for two first-round picks, a third-round pick and quarterback Jared Goff. His contract was the reason for the high compensation package sent to the Lions. But Wentz, who has struggled in recent seasons, also has a big contract.
Carr has just two years left on a more reasonable deal, so I think the Raiders would get more for him than the Eagles got for Wentz if the Raiders ever decide to trade him. It’s always good to know your player’s value and this deal helps inform the Raiders on Carr’s worth.
League source says Colts were among the teams that checked in on Raiders starting quarterback Derek Carr. Received a pretty firm “not available.”

Marcus Mariota market:
There’s been talk that the Raiders are more willing to trade Mariota than Carr, and they’ve gotten some reported interest. This trade clearly takes the Colts out of the mix but perhaps the Chicago Bears, who had interest in Wentz, could turn to Mariota.
Colts could be better:
The Colts went 11-5 in 2020 and assuming Wentz doesn’t bomb, they should be an AFC playoff team again. So the Raiders may have to deal with the Colts in both the playoff race and a potential post-season meeting.
Raiders will face Wentz:
The Raiders will play at Indianapolis in the 2021 season. This will be the first time they face Wentz. He was injured when the Raiders played the Eagles in 2017.
