Earlier Friday afternoon, TMZ reported that police arrested former United States Women’s National Team star Hope Solo.
According to the report from TMZ, police arrested Solo for driving while intoxicated. The former star goalie also allegedly resisted arrest and had her two young daughters in the vehicle as well.
Not long after the report surfaced, Solo issued a statement. Through her counsel, Solo suggested the charges are more harsh than the actual incident itself.
“On the advice of counsel, Hope can’t speak about this situation. She wants everyone to know that her kids are her life, that she was released immediately and is now at home with her family,” Solo said through her counsel.
“The story is more sympathetic than the initial charges suggest and she looks forward to her opportunity to defend these charges.”
