A windy day at Augusta National is already tough on this year’s 2022 Masters field. But compound these conditions with a disappointing equipment failure and you’ve got a rough second round ahead of you.
In the middle of the fairway on the 13th hole, Hudson Swafford took a big swing at his second shot. As soon as he made contact with the ground, the club head on his iron snapped off and flew out in front of him.
Despite this complete club malfunction, the shot still somehow managed to find the green from more than 200 yards out.

Swafford finished the 13th hole with an impressive par considering the circumstances.
According to PGA Tour rules, Swafford is not allowed to replace his broken club — meaning that iron is gone for the remainder of his second round.
This is an unfortunate hiccup in what is otherwise a fantastic round for the 34-year-old golfer. He’s currently 3-under on the day through 13 holes after posting a disappointing 5-over 77 on Thursday.
With today’s solid performance, Swafford currently sits in a tie for 29th at 2-over.
