Giants Make Important Roster Decision On TE Kyle Rudolph

August 25, 2021 by The Spun Leave a Comment

Kyle Rudolph celebrates after game-winning touchdown.

After a lengthy rehab from offseason foot surgery, New York Giants tight end Kyle Rudolph is finally ready to return to the practice field.

The Giants officially activated Rudolph from the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list this morning, signaling his return to practice, albeit on a limited basis. Rudolph passed his team physical to enable being activated.

Rudolph, who signed with the Giants this offseason after 10 seasons in Minnesota, had been on the PUP list all training camp. The team uncovered a foot issue in his physical this spring, but opted to honor the two-year contract agreement they had offered the two-time Pro Bowler anyway.

Prior to Sunday’s preseason game in Cleveland, Rudolph was spotted running routes on the field, which indicated he was close to returning.

Judging by his Twitter reaction, the 31-year-old can’t wait to get back out there.

The Giants will no doubt continue to work Rudolph back slowly in the coming weeks. He’ll join a tight end group that includes 2017 first-round pick Evan Engram, versatile backup Kaden Smith and youngsters Nakia Griffin-Stewart and Jake Hausman.

New York lost a pair of tight ends yesterday when it placed Rysen John on injured reserve and waived/injured Cole Hikutini.
