Joe Judge and the New York Giants have a plan in place to play most of their players during their final preseason game on Sunday, but what about star running back Saquon Barkley?
Barkley, who missed the majority of the 2020 season with a season-ending injury, hasn’t played in the first two Giants’ preseason games. Judge and New York’s training staff have approached Barkley’s comeback with caution, ensuring he stays healthy ahead of the 2021 season. It appears they’ll stick with the strategy on Sunday.
The Giants won’t play Barkley this Sunday when they play the New England Patriots.
“The New York Giants plan to play most of their starters in Sunday’s preseason finale. Saquon Barkley will not be included in that number,” via NFL.com. “Giants coach Joe Judge told reporters Friday that the star running back will not play when New York hosts the Patriots, officially closing the door on the possibility of Barkley seeing game action prior to the regular season.”

There is optimism Saquon Barkley will play in Week 1 when the Giants play the Denver Broncos on Sunday, Sept. 12 at 4:25 p.m. ET. But Joe Judge has yet to make a decision on Barkley’s availability in the season opener.
The Giants continue to take caution in Barkley’s comeback. We don’t blame them. When healthy, Barkley is one of the most explosive players in the NFL. The Giants don’t want to risk losing him for a second straight season.
Keep an eye out for another Barkley update in the coming days. We should soon find out whether or not he’ll play on Sept. 12.
