On Friday night, New York Mets star Francisco Lindor unfortunately took an 88 MPH pitch to the face from Washington Nationals pitcher Steve Cishek. And yet, he managed to avoid any serious injuries.
“I got really lucky,” Lindor told ESPN following the game on Friday. “It could have been a lot worse.”
As for Lindor’s X-Ray results, they were negative.
With another game between the Mets and Nationals coming up tonight, Lindor provided an additional update on his status. Surprisingly, he told reporters that he plans on playing this weekend.
Lindor added that he cracked a tooth as a result of the pitch to the face.
Mets lineup is not out yet, but Francisco Lindor says “as of right now I’m playing.”

Cishek, meanwhile, apologized for what happened. He said that it was an unintentional pitch.
“When it hit him, it shocked me,” Cishek said. “I don’t think I’ve ever hit a lefty in the face or in the head before. I kind of put my head down. My first intention was to go over there and see if he’s OK. When I was doing that, I realized it was a bad idea because I just kind of fired up the bench a little bit on the other side.”
Hopefully, the Mets and Nationals can move past this incident.
